Doing my part...

Does this ring a bell?
(2007.07.29)
From Peter Watts' Behemoth:
In a world kept under constant surveillance for its own protection there were only watched and watchers, and he knew which side of the lens he wanted to be on.
DNS anyone?!
(2007.07.11)
Someone needs a bunch of A RRs or a lobotomy for the home ISP DNS
admins.
Or maybe I should rephrase the above in... hindi/punjabi?!

What Matrix Persona Am I?
(2007.01.27)

You are Agent Smith, from "The Matrix". No one would ever want to run
into you in a dark alley. Cold as steel, tough as a rock, things are
your way or the highway.

Google must be smoking really good stuff
(2007.01.20)
Someone stumbled on this side of the Internet after a rather weird search on google. I've checked it out and here are the results of that query. Needless to say the study of the "human perception" was never on my agenda...
Long waited OpenBSD PF feature
(2007.01.18)
Ah, at last! A PF feature I have been waiting for a very long time just got committed in the source tree today.
Bandwidthd 2.0.1 on OpenBSD 4.0
(2007.01.04)
Installing bandwidthd 2.0.1 on a server running OpenBSD 4.0 the newbie way.
Ankle sprain
(2006.11.24)
Got myself a rather cute ankle sprain playing volleyball. I am now following the RICE method to cure it. RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. If you ever happen to get an ankle sprain or suspect you have one take a look here, wrap your ankle like this and go to see a doctor.
Trust no one
(2006.10.21)
You already know that no one is to be trusted these days. However two
particular entities need to be mentioned:
Google and your ISP.
Google because it is a
monopoly beast
and stores everything -
Google Talk chats, e-mails, searches... you name it. Plus Google is a
well known information censor:
1,
2,
3,
4.
Be smart, the are alternatives:
1,
2,
and more.
You should not trust your ISP either. Check out this error message I got
from my ISP's SMTP relay host today:
Oct 21 21:08:37 roses postfix/smtp[16942]: 9D7C816F4C5:
to=*, relay=smtp.tiscali.it[213.205.33.13]:25,

smtp.tiscali.it[213.205.33.13] said: 452 Insufficient disk space (in
reply to end of DATA command)
Now... was this error message caused by logs that were not moved out of
the server on time or was it caused by an even more dynamic process,
such as Postfix's
always_bcc?
Mmmm goodie...
(2006.07.05)
Alright pfstat is a
very nice tool, created by the same person who did the OpenBSD PF -
Daniel Hartmeier.
I've just installed it on this very box, mostly for fun and curiosity.
It's still missing a couple of things like support for comments in the
configuration file and total/average counters like
mailgraph
has but it sure is a good start and it looks sexy so far.
I heart nights
(2006.06.07)
Yes, indeed I do. It's 02:56AM, rainy night, I'm listening to Overseer - "Sparks" and boy do I feel good. You might wonder what kind of things can keep one up at this early hour? Well the Reading Room has lots of reasons to make insomnia look like a virtue. In a weird kind of way, this type of literature helps relaxing after a long session of perldoc DBI.
Bad Cyveillance, bad, bad, bad
(2006.04.21)
Today I had the honor of being visited by one of the bots of the
wonderful company that
Cyveillance is.
Well, fsck you very much but this machine will NOT permit any
access from this kind of "visitors" so, from now on, any network
or host that is known to be associated with things like Cyveillance
will be blocked by PF.
And why is that? Have a look at these dedicated pages:
linuXgod,
Wikipedia.
